4/9 Blog 2: Learning and applying the different styles of roofs.
This week, I decided to expand my knowledge of roofs and their designs. So, I found a sheet of different roofs to test out and try. Below is the guide: Thoughout this week, I looked at this photo and attempted to try some of the roofs! Here are my attempts. Here, I tried to make the front half of the roofs. Then, I attempted to build a house using one of these roofs from the guide. But, I challenged myself to attempt to do it from memory. And it was a sucess! #swag. I expanded on my original "overgrown" look from the first blog to try to make it more unique and fit to me using the new methods I learned. Without futher or do, here is my masterpiece. I feel rather proud of this build, considering it is much more aesthetically pleasing than my previous build. Even though I like the build, I would like to see other's opinions on my gorgeous baby. Here, my good friend Anoosha evaluated the build for me. "I love this cute little cottage. The flowers at the front make it perfect for the start of spring:)
If this was inspired by a cabin/European style architecture, Rachel was spot on! The large feature window was a great bonus. Ethically speaking, would it be safe to keep a house just two steps from what seems like a cliff into a deep dark hole. Overall, this is crazy impressive. I know I would never be able to do something like this." Although, Anoosha doesn't play Minecraft, so I also got some unbiased opinions from other individuals who do play Minecraft! Here, my best friend from Canada says "Well I suggest in ur final pic take a diff angle. Also, for criticism now, maybe just a bit less tall grass. It’s kinda intrusive when looking at the lower half of the house." Here is what my other good friend Hailey (who is an awesome judge) said, "A lovely use of angles on the roof, and the window fits nicely. The flowers are a cute touch to the landscaping, and I am enjoying the color palette of the blocks you used! My only critiques would be to add some controlled greenery such as flower windowsills or a few bushes at the entrance, and I think the windows would fit the house more if they were stained. All in all, a gorgeous build! If Minecraft were real, I would live there!" So, looking at these quotes and other criticism I got, I can say that I have to work on my landscaping and my windows. Speaking of that, my goal for next week is to work on my exterior which includes walls, windows, and more! So I will take into consideration what my peers said, work on my walls and windows, and continue my journey to becoming a Minecraft builder!
In addition here are some of my judge's quotes in case you wanted to see them.
"Ok overall it’s good but I HATE the window at the top it’s too circular compared to the jagged edges of the roof and yea also the very top of the roof also is to circular again compared to the rest of it and the picture has a oak thing on the left that sortaa ruins the vibe but other than that everything is good" - Ben
"I like the build overall. Secondly, the pallet of the build is nice, BUT I feel like there should be another type of wood along with the spruce that you already used. The water feature is also a good additon, BUT it looks like a creeper strolled over to your house and was horrified by it and exploded. The shape and walls of the house are well done, BUT I feel like there should be a little bit more depth/detail where needed. The roof goes well with the shape of the house, BUT it could use a bit of texture to it or simply a mixture of diff blocks. Lastly, the flowers and bone meal are a good addition, BUT there is WAY too much in that confined space. You could spread it out around the build or just remove some of it."- A confidential individual from the reject block
"Wow the flowers add so much dimension!! It makes the stone bricks seem very comforting with the addition of the wooden planks!"- Ananya
"i like it. I like the flowers and the wood on stone contrast."- Jake
P.S I did ask everyone if they wanted to remain confidential or not :)

Anonymous reject block person has nothing on you, I loved it.

DeleteRachel I feel like you are taking your blog in a very interesting direction and I cannot wait to see how your builds look at the end. You should try watching a green anonymous person for inspiration.

ReplyDeleteThank you for coming along with me through my minecraft journey !
DeleteI really liked the smooth stone and the fences that acted as support pillars. The lantern over the window was a nice touch as well. One youtuber who often uploads building videos is Rizzial. You can take some of the techniques from his videos and incorporate them into your own builds.
